What We Do



Public health education and administration officers in the Commissioned Corps have the flexibility and freedom to pursue a diverse and fulfilling career. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Providing public health expertise to agencies and communities around the world
  • Expanding national health resources
  • Developing the public health workforce through mentorship training and leadership
  • Providing guidance and leadership in program management and financial oversight of government programs
  • Developing strategic plans to improve health care systems and strengthen access to appropriate health/medical services
  • Collaborating with Federal and non-Federal partners to develop and implement policies for healthier communities

In addition, public health education and administration officers may have the opportunity to assist in public health responses to man-made and natural disasters and participate in rural health missions helping some of the neediest populations in the Nation.

As a public health education and administration officer in the Commissioned Corps, you work throughout the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in other Federal agencies and programs. Below is a list of potential Federal agencies and programs where public health education and administration officers have the greatest likelihood of finding an assignment – the order is based on the number of officers presently assigned.
