All Commissioned Corps officers in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) must meet basic qualifications: you must be a U.S. citizen, be less than 44 years, 00 months, 00 days of age, and pass a physical examination and extensive background check. To be an engineer officer you must meet these professional and academic training requirements.
An engineer candidate must possess one of the following to be considered for a commission as an engineer officer in the USPHS
- An engineering degree (e.g., Bachelor of Science, Master of Science) from a program (e.g., Civil Engineering, Biomedical Engineering) accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- An engineering degree from a foreign (non-U.S.) university may be considered eligible. The A candidate must provide an independent evaluation of his/her degree from the Center for Professional Engineering Education Services (CPEES), or equivalent, which includes certified translated transcripts with grades and a detailed evaluation of all course work to be considered.
