A majority of the larger-than-usual call volume can be attributed to the recent upswing in recruitment activity for the HHS-DoD Partners in Behavioral Health Initiative. For this initiative the Public Health Service is recruiting mental health professionals into the Commissioned Corps to be detailed to Department of Defense (DoD) medical treatment facilities, which will increase these health services capabilities for returning warriors and their family members and also to military retirees. In addition to these psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses the Corps continues recruiting to fill vacancies in a wide variety of other professions, such as physician, nurse, pharmacist, dentist, and scientist.
Now, all calls to the Commissioned Corps toll-free number will go to the new call center, where a dedicated staff of professionals is available to answer questions and provide information about the PHS-DoD Initiative and the PHS Commissioned Corps Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (EST).
“The dedicated people in our new call center are actively marketing the HHS-DoD initiative to all qualified callers and of course will assist any health professional and student callers from a wide variety of health care fields in finding out if the Corps may be a good career match,” says CAPT Dean Coppola, Director of the Division of Commissioned Corps Recruitment (DCCR).
